This is Aside Manga News for July 20th, 2026.
The manga series Shonen Racket is now available digitally on the Omoi app. Written by Kakeru Kakemaru, it was originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Champion starting with issue 26 in 2015 and concluding with issue 41 in 2017. The series ran for 112 chapters across 13 volumes.
The story is based around the rivalry between 2 table tennis prodigies, Ichiro and Jorgen. As a sports manga, it hits between the typical action and fast-paced movements with some light hearted drama based in a youthful setting. Later into the story is also expands beyond just the boys table tennis club, to the girls’s club and other competing schools in tournaments.
The first 2 chapters of Shonen Racket are available in English on Omoi starting today. New chapters are added weekly, along with the volume extras for subscribers to Omoi Premium, their all-you-can-read paid reading tier.
Kakeru Kakemaru made his debut as a mangaka with the Shonen Racket oneshot in Weekly Shonen Champion’s 51st issue in 2013 followed by the full serialization in 2015. Even with the conclusion of the series, he has since provided illustrations for various other Table Tennis books. Starting in 2021, he partnered with Mochimaru Sakaki who provided the story for the 5 volume manga series titled Only I Know About “Leveling Up” in This World published on Comic Glast. His current serialization is Gyakuten Baribariverse which is being published monthly in Corocoro Comic magazine. The series is a tie-in to the Bandai produced coin-based game and currently has seven chapters released in Japan. Shonen Racket on Omoi is the first of his series to receive an English release.
