This is Aside Manga News for October 13th, 2026.
NHK Cosmomedia America announced that their North American streaming service JME will be shut down in March 2027. Originally launched in March 2024 as the successor to the TV JAPAN service, the streaming service provides some live Japanese broadcasts as well a variety of on-demand streaming for various Japanese movies and TV shows. This service was later expanded to include English subtitles on portions of their on-demand shows, some of which are exclusive to the service.
Some of these exclusives were shows, movies, and TV specials that were live action adaptations of manga series. Ranma ½, Hustlin’ Boy, Hard-Core, and Kappei are some of the adaptations that are still available on the service. Series like Masked Ninja Akakage received English subtitles as the show was airing weekly in Japan. There are also some other movies and specials that were available on the service that filled in gaps from other streaming services. These include things like The Files of Young Kindaichi Neo, The Way of the Househusband – the Cinema, and Radiation House the Movie.
A subscription to watch these on-demand English subtitled show is still possible to purchase. They will be making changes to the plans in the near future so that they will end by the March 31, 2027 discontinuation date. Some of these series and movies may leave the platform before this date and currently there are no announced plans for these exclusive series to be available on other streaming services.
