This is Aside Manga News for August 19th, 2026.

With the release of issue 18 for Grand Jump magazine in Japan today, there was an update to the previous announced spin-off series for Rokudenashi Blues. Under the title of Rokudenashi Blues: Onikazura, the upcoming manga series would go to into the story of Onizuka of Shibuya and Kasai of Ikebukuro before the showdown of the Four Heavenly Kings from the original series. The story would be provided by the original series creator, Masanori Morita, and originally the art for the new series would be done by Boichi. Bochi is best known in English for their manga series Dr. Stone and the on-hiatus The Marshal King series.

However the update today announced that the spin-off series will be delayed from this summer to a release later in the winter in Grand Jump. With this delay, the artist is changing from Boichi to Yuki Yoshimoto. Yuki Yoshimoto previously provided the illustration for The Ghost in the Shell: The Human Algorithm manga series. That series completed with the 8th volume and the full series was released in English by Kodansha.

Following the news, Masanori Morita has posted on X that he apologizes for the delay and asks fans to wait a bit longer for the new series. The new series artist, Yuki Yoshimoto, also posted an update stating that it would have been cool to see Boichi’s version, but that he hopes the first chapter will show how much he enjoyed the original manga series.

The original manga series of Rokudenashi Blues ran in the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump magazine between 1988 through 1997. Masanori Morita’s most recent manga series, Zashisu ran in Grand Jump magazine and concluded in 2024. The series is currently being published in English on Manga Million.
