This is Aside Manga News for August 8th, 2026.
Shueisha has launched their “Manga Million” website which contains hundreds of manga series available for free reading, with most being available in English for the first time. While they claim this was not created via AI, as Comics Beat has reported, the lack of named individual translators and letterers, along with naming companies that do promote AI translation, provides some doubt to that claim.
When developing the site, Shueisha must have been aware of these concerns, and their potential lack of editorial and quality control, as they have added a way to report any errors or issues in the chapter. On each chapter, you can click the 3 dots, then Report Chapter, and then select the issues with the chapter. They also have a Contact Us page where you can give feedback as well.
While the huge number of manga series and the questionable quality of some the localization is the main focus, the new website also has some additional features that may have been overlooked.
First is that they are starting a Newsletter. As new titles and additional chapters are added to the service, they plan on using this Newsletter as a method of announcing this. Currently the newsletter is only planned to be released in English. For titles like Kochikame, they plan to translate and release all 201 volumes of the series onto the service in English before the end of 2027.
They also have a Featured Article section on the website. Currently this is filled with some interviews and manga series recommendations. These were originally published in Japanese on the Shueisha Manga Expo website that launched earlier this year. The translator for these articles was not listed. It is notable that some of the titles recommended and referenced in these articles are not currently available on the Manga Million service. They may hint to potential future series being added such as Black Tiger, Rookies, and Gokusen. The site says that these articles will be added daily.
For manga titles that were already licensed and released by English publishers, you can show your support by going into those series and clicking the “Other Ways to read more” link. From the pop-up you can jump to the Local Publisher’s website directly for that series. This link also includes a campaign referral code, so they know you came from Manga Million. For series like Gin Tama, this can be a good way to show your support for titles that have the high quality translation and localization. Lastly, the News section under the Featured articles also hints at some more plans they have with Manga Million over the next year. In addition to the Yoasobi collaboration promotional video, they are planning on having additional events and campaigns related to the service and manga series. From the Onwards! The Expendable Expedition! Manga chapter released on August 6th on Manga Plus in English, they also allude to upcoming anime convention appearances.
