This is Aside Manga News for July 9th, 2026.
Last Friday, the Japanese manga magazine Weekly Manga Goraku published it’s 3000th issue. The magazine originally started with a bi-weekly release in January 1964. By August 1971, it then changed to a weekly serialization starting with it’s 111th issue. The magazine reached it’s 2000th issue with the February 24th issue in 2006. To celebrate the milestone this year, the magazine had a reduced price down to 110 yen, honoring the magazine’s original weekly price of 100 yen back in 1971.
35 of the magazine’s creators also drew celebratory shikishis for the magazine’s 3000th issue. One of the creators includes Mitei Hattori who had his manga Smile! originally published in the magazine. That series is currently being published by Kodama Tales in English with 4 volumes out now. Akihiro Kumeta also contributed an illustration. They were the artist for the Monkey Peak, a manga that is currently being published by Antarctic Press.
The cover illustration for the issue features the prologue of a new manga serialization titled Chikyū Taisen 2053 or in English “The Great Earth Battle 2053.” The manga series is being created by Go Nagai and his staff in at his Dynamic Pro studio. The full serialization will begin later this year in the winter months.
