This is Aside Manga News for July 14th, 2026.
Mangaka Yuki Imada has announced that his Shadow the Hedgehog manga will be receiving a reprint in Japan. The series was first published in Monthly Corocoro Comic magazine between the October 2024 issue and the March 2025 issue for a total of 6 chapters. The single volume edition collected these chapters and then was published in Japan on April 28th, 2025. This manga told an alternate origin story for Shadow. The specific date for when the volume reprints will hit store shelves in Japan has not been set. This is the first manga Yuki Imada has published that has received a reprint.
Following the success of the Shadow manga, which was only planned to be a short series, he started a new series based around Sonic the Hedgehog in the July 2025 issue of Monthly Corocoro Comic. This series is titled Sonic to Yuki no Tsurugi and is still on-going. The 14th chapter will be included in the next issue of the magazine. Unlike the Shadow manga, which was a pre-existing origin-story, Yuki Imada has more freedom with this story with Sonic.
Both of the Shadow and Sonic manga series by Yuki Imada are not officially available in English at this time. Back in June 2025 when the Sonic to Yuki no Tsurugi manga series first launched in Japan, the Corocoro Editorial department had to put out a warning about illegal postings of the manga in Japanese and English on social media. They mentioned that they were also starting discussions to create an official English release of the manga series.
While this official release of both manga series in English hasn’t occurred yet, Yuki Imada has been drawing various other illustrations for Sonic the Hedgehog which have been released for international fans. Most notably the Survival Japanese with Sonic the Hedgehog book, published by Kadokawa this past January, is completely in English and helps fans learn about Japan and the Japanese language. The ebook is available on the Japanese Bookwalker store and the physical book can be imported from various retailers, such as Kinokuniya.
